Agnes was born in Deighton, Huddersfield, second of the four children of Godfrey and Hannah (nee Hanson) Netherwood. After leaving school she worked as a weaver in a woollen mill until, in July 1896, she married Albert Haigh, a cloth finisher, of School Yard, Armitage Bridge. They rented a terraced cottage at 83, Taylor Hill Road, Berry Brow. There were two children, Marjorie (my mother, on the left), born September 1900 and Arnold, born 1903.

Albert died at the age of sixty in January 1927. Their son Arnold married, and with his wife Edith (nee Cox) and their two children Betty and Gordon continued to live at home with his mother for the rest of her life. She died in 1950 at the age of 83 years.
